Rhode Island Corporate Name Endings

The name must contain the word "Corporation," "Company," "Incorporated," "Limited," or an abbreviation thereof. The name must not be deceptively similar to any domestic or foreign corporation, limited partnership, foreign limited partnership authorized to do business in the state, or reserved or registered name, unless written consent is obtained from the holder of such name. The name may not contain any word implying the corporation was formed for a purpose for which it is not organized.

  • Residence Requirements: No provision.

  • Directors are not required to be listed in the articles of incorporation.

    Rhode Island corporations and LLCs are required to have a registered agent located in Rhode Island. The Rhode Island registered agent is responsible for receiving important legal and tax documents including service of process (litigation) documents, franchise tax forms, and annual report forms.

    A Rhode Island registered agent is an individual or company located at a street address in Rhode Island. Post office boxes are not acceptable addresses for a registered agent in Rhode Island.
